About The Band

Timothy Tanzer – Vocals, Guitar, Keys, Bass Guitar

Starting out with classical piano, Tim grew up exploring a broad range of instruments and musical styles. After striking a musical partnership with lifelong friend and guitarist Cameron Jang, the multi-instrumentalist turned his attention to songwriting and producing, and together they founded the YouTube channel, Tim and Cameron Playing Guitar. A lover of motown and alternative rock, Tim’s greatest influences are Jeff Buckley, Dallas Green and Jimi Hendrix. Tim also produced, co-mixed and engineered the EP.

Cameron Jang – Vocals, Guitar

Cameron started learning the guitar after an inspired encounter with a broken acoustic guitar on a family trip. In his early years of learning, he was exposed to the works of guitarists John Frusciante and Jimi Hendrix, which had a pivotal influence on his own guitar style. Cameron shared his musical interests with Tim, and the two wrote and recorded a number of songs over several years, culminating with the formation of the band. Cameron’s musical influences are constantly changing, and his unique style continues to be the cornerstone of Carvel’s sound. Radiohead, John Frusciante, Red Hot Chili Peppers and David Bowie are his favourite artists.

James Jelliffe – Drums

Voted top 10 up and coming Australian drummer of the year in 2009, as well as previous winner of the Brisbane drum solo competition, James graduated from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music and worked as a sound designer and drummer for international projects before joining the band. Also a drum teacher for 10 years, stylistically James brings a diverse and accomplished background of songwriting and drumming in funk, rock, metal and rap. James also co-mixed, engineered and mastered the EP.

Tom Jewell – Bass Guitar

Coming from a background of jazz, funk and indie-rock, Tom joined the band in 2015 for the creation of ‘For the Birds EP’. Influenced by some of the greats such as Flea, Marcus Miller and Jaco Pastorius, Tom brought his unique sound to Carvel and helped to write and record the bass parts on the Carvel EP.
